This school holiday, The V&A Waterfront markets and Sweets from Heaven (now found at the V&A!) have got a fun, stimulating line-up of workshops to keep your kids entertained. From the 29th of June until the 6 July, small groups of 8 or less will be guided through a choice of craft activities with a distinct ‘edutainment’ element is concerned. The workshops encourage creativity and independent thinking as well as drawing attention to the environment by utilising recycled materials.
The workshops run between half an hour and an hour and a half, making them suitable for keeping 6 to 11 year olds occupied while parents take a wander around the markets. The venues for the workshops are the Market on the Wharf, the Craft Market and Wellness Centre and the Two Oceans Aquarium.
So, what exactly will your child be getting up to without you?
This is a simple technique to stamp material and create something amazing by simply adding a playful print with ordinary baking potatoes. Kids will make their own potato stamps.
Create a personalised Grass Head and watch its green hair grow! We will provide the supplies and inspiration to create a unique character. Once the hair begins to grow kids will have loads of fun trimming it and designing different looks!
There is something so magical about mobiles – the way they balance and move as well as the colours and variety of shapes. Children will be able to create their very own mobile from a mix of recycled and crafting supplies.
Play Dough Craft
Play dough is one of the most enjoyable things to play with – soft, easy to work with, colourful and entertaining. Children will learn how to make their own play dough, colour it and create whatever they can imagine.
The magical beauty of light will be the focus. Kids will make two different types of lanterns – a glass one and paper one. Let the light shine!
Come and create a fantastical underwater world with a cardboard aquarium made out of recycled and craft materials. The Two Oceans Aquarium provides the perfect setting for inspiration.
Visit www.waterfront.co.za for more information or pre-register and pay for the different workshops to avoid disappointment. The cost is R100 per child and includes a Kids Ahoy cap.
There is so much happening at the V&A Waterfront to entertain your little ones this holiday and even more to keep you, the adults, hooked too. From the Discover Delicious restaurant specials to movies and shopping galore, everyone will be taken care of at the V&A Waterfront this winter.
