Mothers Day 2015

Mother’s Day is upon us this Sunday, 10 May, and presents the perfect opportunity to spoil the most important woman in all of our lives.If you don’t have plans yet, here are some ideas of where to go to make the day extra special for both you and your mom.

Cape Town

• Browse the Bay Harbour Market in Hout Bay
  With over 80 stalls selling everything from gourmet foods (chilli poppers, sushi, oysters, Tunisian falafels and sweet treats to name just a few examples) to jewellery, art and clothing, the vibey Bay Harbour Market is an excellent day out with mom. What’s more, since it is indoors, it will be enjoyable whatever the upredictable May Cape Town weather throws at you.

• High Tea at the Mount Nelson in Gardens
  High tea is a traditional favourite and allows you and mom to indulge yourselves in the truest sense of the word. The high tea consists of an array of sweet and savoury delicacies, with a background of live music from the Hout Bay Music Project, in the most old-school luxury setting.

• Visit a Wine Farm
  Many of the wine estates out in Stellenbosch and the greater Cape Winelands area are hosting special Mother’s Day events.

Gauteng

• Kaya FM Mother’s Day Concert at the Johannesburg Zoo
  Celebrate in style at the Kaya FM Mother’s Day concert at the Johannesburg Zoo. The concert will be taking place from 10 am to 5pm and guests can bring their own picnic baskets to enjoy while listening to live performances by Lira, Maleh and the Johannesburg Chamber Orchestra. The zoo will also be offering Big 5 tours and animal demonstrations.

• Mothers Day Lipizzaners Show in Kyalami
  For  horse lovers, the special Mothers Day Lippizaners show will be a real treat. Watch magnificent white stallions dance to the well loved music from broadway show Mama Mia. Shows will be taking place at 10:30am and at 3pm.

Port Elizabeth

• Woodall Country House and Spa at the Addo Elephant Park
  Addo Elephant Park is well-known for its gentle giants, however, few know that you can combine wonderful wildlife viewing with a luxurious spa experience. Treat your mom – and maybe yourself too – to a unique pampering experience at the onsite spa.

Nelspruit

• Mothers Day Concert at the Lowveld National Botanical Garden.
  Treat your mom to a relaxed show by some top South African performers including Kevin Leo, Jakkie Louw, Corlea Botha and Joseph Clarke. Pack a picnic basket with all your favourite treats and enjoy the day basking in the beautiful gardens.

Durban

• Lunch and spa treatments at the Oyster Box in Umhlanga
  Make this special day an occasion to remember with a delicious four-course meal in the splendid surroundings of the glamorous Oyster Box. Following your meal, head to the spa and take advantage of one of the massage and manicure specials on offer for Mother’s Day.
