A visit to the Olifants Valley provides countless opportunities to explore and discover a great variety of scenery and attractions from mountain ranges, gorges and dams to animal sanctuaries, game viewing in nearby game reserves and many other fun activities. There are over 500 bird species in the area so birding is definitely a highlight too.
The Hoedspruit area lies at the foot of the Drakensberg Mountains approximately 70 kilometres from the Orpen and Phalaborwa gates to the Kruger National Park.

•Various animal rehab and breeding centres are close by, like The Hoedspruit Cheetah Breeding Project which is only 18km away, the Moholoholo Rehabilitation Center at Kampersrus which is 28km away and the Swadini Snake Park which is 16km away.

Elephant Back Safaris – At Kapama Game Reserve, half day Elephant Back Safaris can be experienced.
Scenic driving routes – From Hoedspruit, the Panorama Route is easily accessible with sights such as the Three Rondavels, Blyde River Canyon (which is the third largest canyon in the world), Bourke’s Luck Potholes, God’s Window, World’s View, The Pinnacle, Lisbon Falls, Berlin Falls and the Graskop Gorge all within one and a half hour’s drive-time.

Water activities – The Klaserie Dam where fishing and boating can be undertaken, is a mere 35km from the Hoedspruit area. On the Blydepoort Dam game viewing excursions can be undertaken through registered tour operators.
•For the more adventurous, white river rafting can be undertaken on the Blyde River or in the Olifants Gorge next to the Abel Erasmus Pass. Canoe trips can be undertaken on the calmer waters of the Blyde River below the Blydepoort Dam and on the Olifants River. A scenic game viewing and sundowner’s boat cruise can be had too on the Olifants River close to Phalaborwa.
Golfing – In Hoedspruit, the Drakensig Golf Club, which overlooks the picturesque Drakensberg Mountains, boasts a 9-hole course.
